As you all know, Beck loves to cook. He loves to pour the cupfulls of flour and sugar into the bowl and likes to try to pronounce the ingredients (mabilla for vanilla is my personal favourite!). THe part he looks forward to most is when the ingredients have all been combined to form a deliciously gooey treat. He repeats "I want to taste it...I want to taste it...I want to taste it".

When we were baking Grandma's Bran Muffins last night, he just leaned forward and put his whole head in the empty mixing bowl! By the time we'd grabbed the camera, he'd picked up the bowl and was practically wearing it over his face!

Yes, they ARE this good. Thanks for the recipe, Grandma!

Thomas & Friends Live on Stage

On Sunday, we all went to see Thomas - Live on Stage! Beck watched the show in awe. He couldn't believe he was seeing Thomas, Percy, Diesel and Sir Topham Hatt "in person"! Beck would wave at the stage when Sir Topham Hatt or the conductors would wave at the audience. He was very cute to watch!

Beck loves Thomas the Tank Engine right now, so naturally, when I printed a bunch of costumes from the internet, he chose this one. For the weeks leading up to Halloween though, he had a love/hate relationship with this costume. He loved to look at it and carry it around saying "come on Thomas", but would freak out if we tried to put it on him. He loved it if I put it over my head, but in no way did he want it on him! Oy! Last weekend we had a Halloween Party at a market in the neighbourhood and he wanted to wear his Pablo costume from last year, not his new Thomas costume. I was worried he wouldn't want to wear Thomas for Hallween this year at all, but by some "Halloween Miracle" he said yes! And he loved every minute in it.

Granny and Grandpa came over early to have Pizza with us. They handed out candy at our house while we took Beck to a few houses on our street. Then we came back home where Beck showed Granny and Grandpa his bounty and stared at the pile in amazement! We all had so much fun!

Trick or Treating

Beck went Trick or Treating with his little friend Paige (and her baby sister Bailey). Beck really got the hang of calling out "Trick or Treat" at the doors after watching Paige do it a few times with great success. It doesn't take long to figure it out when the results are the door opens and candy gets put into your basket! Beck was very polite and would say "Manku" (thank you). The first few times though, I encouraged him at the closed door saying "what do you say, Beck? Say trick or treat!", and then when candy was placed in his basket, I'd say again "what do you say, Beck?" and he'd say "trick or treat". Talk about confusing the poor child!

My mom (Beck's Granny)'s sister, Helen came to visit from Byron Bay, Australia to surprise my mom for my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary! Auntie Helen hid out at our house until Mom and Dad came over for their anniversary dinner. Beck brought them outside and I took drink orders. I then called Auntie Helen down and had her deliver Mom's drink out to her. She stepped out the back door and said "Margaret, did you say you wanted a cold drink?" Mom was absolutely shocked! She was stunned for a split second then jumped up screaming and saying "what are you doing here?!" The best line of the night was after a few screams and a few tears of joy, mom said to Auntie Helen "did you know you were coming?!" Ahh, gotta love surprises and how the completely mess with the mind!!

We bought a new camera and decided to give it a whirl at the zoo today. I had some fun playing with the settings. The first picture below is set on automatic, so what the camera thought should happen, given the setting. It was a little dim, so the shutter stayed open a little longer. The second picture is taken manually adjusting the ISO to 1600. It produced a more grainy picture, but much better in my opinion!

I was away for work in Banff for two days last week. Beck enjoyed the big lollypop and candy watch from Welch's Candy Store in Banff. When I got back home, I read the daily notes Mary Ann leaves for us. On Wednesday she had written "When he was eating his breakfast, out of the blue he just said 'Mommy, miss Mommy' - I said 'Oh, miss your mommy, she'll be home tomorrow.'" That made my heart melt. While I was gone, I called home and Beck spoke to me excitedly for about 5 minutes on the phone. The longest he's ever talked all at once on the phone. We were actually carrying on a conversation (albeit a primitive one!) He kept telling me to "watch mommy, watch!" and I could actually make out what he was trying to tell me. It was incredible! I was so proud of my little man!

This beautiful masterpiece was waiting for us on Beck's easel on Thursday evening. Written in the daily notes, Mary Ann wrote:

"Paints today (morning activity). I drew the flower and let him choose what colours of each petal and do the colouring. Isn't it nice? (His colour combination) He's in the mood for painting this a.m. Spends about 45 minutes, so I called it his "masterpiece" cause he spends a lot of time doing it...with a story behind those shapes and colours, but I didn't understand, but something like 'a man walking' and 'cars'."

Too cute! Mary Ann is so great with Beck and he adores her! So do we!

Remember the excitement of hearing the tinny jingle of the ice cream truck coming down the street on a hot summer's afternoon? Beck experienced this for the first time last weekend. We stepped out into the backyard and he cupped his hand behind his ear and said "OH! Sounds" We watched the ice cream truck come closer on the other side of the ravine behind the house and waved frantically trying to get his attention. He must have seen us, because he turned around and made his way over to our street! Beck was so excited! He enjoyed eating (and wearing) his fudgesicle, and waved bye-bye to the ice cream truck as we watched him drive away on the other side of the ravine.

Beck loves to cook and clean (let's hope this continues!) This weekend we made chocolate chip banana bread and Beck helped with every step. When we were adding the chocolate chips, he popped one in his mouth and said his new favourite phrase, "dere, dat's better" [there, that's better]. He was so excited to see the pans in the oven. When they came out, he kept running around saying "I May Dis...I May Dis...Daddy, I May Dis...!" [I made this]. He was so proud, and he should have been, it was delicious, or as Beck would say "Deewishus!"

Pieter is the most sweet, humble, and thoughtful little boy. When it was time for him to open presents, he came outside and asked a group of us sitting at the picnic table if it was a good time for him to open his presents. We said "that's a great idea, Pieter!" Then he said "I'll need some helpers" and looked at each of us and said "would you all like to be my helpers?" We laughed at how cute he was and said "ABSOLUTELY!" and he raised his arms, pumped them in the air and said "GRRREAT!!" and ran off. What a cutie!

When he started opening his gifts, he asked the other kids to help him. He said (very excitedly) "come on guys, lets open this one" with each gift. Most four year olds don't want to share opening their birthday gifts, but not Pieter. He encouraged his little friends to help him tear into each and every one!

I loved the ensuite which had a huge Roman shower with two shower heads,

a separate vanity area and a huge walk in closet behind where the photo is being taken.

There were three additional bedrooms. One was just off the great room and had been converted into an office. The other two were down a hall they called the "Children's Wing" (!!) and had a jack-and-jill bathroom between them.

Beck thoroughly enjoyed himself at the Train Park! He kept calling the blue engine Thomas, although in his voice it sounds like "Tomish"!! He rode the train twice (once with mommy and once with daddy) and played at the playground. When the train would go past the playground, all the kids would stop playing, run over to the little fence and wave at the train. It was so much fun!...and now down the big tunnel slide - all on his own!

Beck loves anything to do with water. He sure lives up to his zodiac sign! Some of the other traits for Pisces include: Imaginative and sensitive; Compassionate and kind; Selfless and unworldly; Intuitive and sympathetic. I think these are pretty good adjectives for who Beck is today (except maybe "selfless", he is a typical two-year old after all!!)

We went with Ellie and Jenna (and their mommies) to the Backyardigans Live Show on Sunday afternoon. Beck had so much fun dancing to the music! Whenever the music would start, he'd start grooving! When the song would end, he'd clap wildly! He had such an amazing time and loved hanging out with such beautiful girls as Ellie and Jenna!

We spent Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa Stewart's house this year. We told Santa where Beck would be Christmas morning and he found him - look at all the toys he left for Beck! On December 23, we celebrated an early Christmas with Granny and Grandpa Collett because we wouldn't see them on Christmas Day. Beck loved his presents, and more importantly, loved spending time with his Granny and Grandpa. He enjoyed building a super tall mega-block tower, and playing on his new crocodile piano!

My work had a Children's Christmas Party which with skating, face-painting, and this big snowman globe which was so fun to run around! Jenna and her mom Lisa were there too (pictured directly below). Beck kept running over to Jenna to give her hugs and kisses. I think he's smitten!

We had so much fun when Ellie came over for the evening last week. Ellie and Beck sat at Beck's table to eat their dinner, then they played, read some books and watched a short Backyardigans video.
